What it is

What is the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video?

The Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video is a Tiny Desk concert AI parody: a crew is dropped into Charlie Wilson’s band at NPR’s Tiny Desk, belting The Gap Band’s Outstanding behind a cluttered office desk. It started with college football fans, and the most-watched one, posted on October 18, 2026, put the coaches of that weekend’s losing teams in the band and passed 2.3 million plays. NFL fans followed with their own coaches, an owner on the sax and a reporter on the sax.

Here the band is your crew: you are the frontman who sings and laughs right into the camera, and up to four friends take the keyboard, the sax and the two backup mics, each in the clothes from their own photo. Leave a spot empty and a stranger plays it, or add one group photo of everyone. It is the Tiny Desk AI meme for any group chat, team or office that deserves a roast.

What happens, in order

  1. The band at the desk1

    The band at the desk

Behind a little desk crowded with records and toys, the keyboard player sings into the mic while two backup singers in headsets sing along and pump their fists.

  2. You, up close2

    You, up close

The camera cuts to you: singing along with the band, then turning to the lens with a grin.

  3. The laugh3

    The laugh

You throw your head back and laugh, waving a hand, as if your band is too good to be true.

  4. The sax solo4

    The sax solo

Then the sax: one of your friends plays a solo at the mic while the keyboard player listens in front.

How to

How to make an Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video

Your photo, your friends’ if you like, or one group photo. The desk, the instruments and the moves of the Outstanding Tiny Desk set are already in the scene.

  1. 01

Step 1: Add your group photo

One photo of you and up to four friends, faces clear. Left to right: you, the keyboard, the sax, then the two backup singers. You are the frontman who sings and laughs up close.

  2. 02

Step 2: Or a photo each

Switch to A photo each: you alone in the first slot, then one friend for the keyboard, the sax and each backup mic. Leave a slot empty and a stranger plays that part.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Tick the box

Confirm everyone in the photos is an adult who agreed. Your photos and the tick are still there after signing in or adding credits.

  4. 04

Outstanding Tiny Desk AI: which photos to use

Your photo matters most: you get the close-up, so your face has to be sharp and front-on. Friends are optional, one per photo, and everyone keeps the clothes from their own photo, so a work shirt or a team hoodie behind the desk is half the joke. One group photo works too, as long as every face in it is clear.

  • Sample photo: a man in his forties with short dark hair and a goatee, in a plaid flannel shirt, belted jeans and brown boots, hands in his pockets, standing full length against a plain wall, face clearly visible

    Face too small

Works

  • One adult in each photo, alone
  • Waist-up or more, so the clothes come through
  • Face clear and front-on, hair visible
  • A group photo where every face is sharp

Skip

  • A big group photo with tiny faces
  • Sunglasses, caps pulled low or faces turned away
  • Photos of celebrities or public figures
  • Children, or anyone who has not agreed

Fixes

If your Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video looks off

Five people in one band: when something looks wrong, it is usually one of the photos.

  • I do not look like myself

You get the close-up, so your photo matters most. Use a sharp, front-on photo of you alone, no sunglasses, no cap pulled low, and make it again.

  • A friend ended up in the wrong part

Each slot is one part: keyboard, sax, then the backup singers on the left and right. In a group photo, left to right is the order. Put the photos where you want them and make it again.

  • Our clothes changed

Everyone wears what they wear in their photo. A close-up of a face leaves the outfit to the AI; use photos down to the waist or more.

  • A cap or a team logo showed up

The band in the clip wears caps and team gear. If some of it lands on you, use a photo where your hair is clearly visible and make it again.

  • A photo will not upload

Use a JPG, PNG or WEBP. iPhone photos saved as HEIC sometimes will not open in a browser; take a screenshot of the photo and upload that.

  • The video did not render

If a render fails, the credits go back to your balance on their own. Add the photos again and press the button once more.

Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video FAQ

How do I make the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video?

Add your photo, your friends’ if you like, or one group photo, tick the box and press the button at the top of this page. When it is ready, download it and post it with the AI label on. The steps above go through it in order.

Do I need an app or a Tiny Desk AI filter?

No app and no filter. The Tiny Desk AI video people post on TikTok is made from photos, and this page makes it in your browser.

Can I make it with just one photo?

Yes. Add a photo of just you and strangers take the keyboard, the sax and the backup mics. Friends, coworkers or teammates in those slots make it funnier.

Can I use one group photo of our crew?

Yes, that is the default: add it, up to five people. Left to right they play the frontman, the keyboard, the sax and the two backup singers, so whoever should get the close-up stands on the left. Faces need to be clear.

Can I put real coaches or players in it?

Only people who agreed. Every photo has to be you or an adult who said yes, and photos of celebrities and public figures are not allowed. Your own team, office or family works best anyway.

Can my kids be in the band?

No. Photos of anyone under 18 are not allowed. Make one with adult friends instead.

Is this an official NPR or Tiny Desk video?

No. This is an independent parody tool with no link to NPR, Tiny Desk or Charlie Wilson. Label your video as AI when you post it, and say it is a parody.

What happens to our photos?

They are used only to make your video and are deleted as soon as it finishes rendering, whether it worked or not. The finished video waits in My videos for you to download; it is never shown anywhere on this site, and nothing you upload is used to train models.
